VZ Scl is a cataclysmic variable star located in the constellation Sculptor. It belongs to the VY Sculptoris subtype - stars that usually stay bright but sometimes suddenly drop in brightness. This behavior is caused by instabilities in the accretion flow of matter from the companion star onto the white dwarf through an accretion disk.
